Boko Haram
War has always been an issues in Northwest Africa. Currently, there is a group called Boko Haram, who has been threatening war against Nigeria. Below you can see the video of Boko Haram leader named Abubakar Shekau threatening Nigeria by burning Nigeria's flag.
Boko Haram's headquarters is located in Gwoza, Nigeria. In Gwoza, Nigeria, buildings are bomber, burned, or looted. The washingtonpost.com writes about the conditions at Gwoza, Nigeria. "Schools and homes are littered with abandoned explosives and weapons. A ditch is full of decomposing bodies" (Sieff, Kevin). When the insurgents came to the northeast area of Nigeria, some residents were able to flee from these attacks. Those who weren't able to flee were either raped or recruited by Boko Haram. One in particular man, named Hassan Usman, was recruited as a mechanic. A Nigerian soldier found him and asked how this happened to him. Hassan Usman said, "They accused me of stealing fuel, and they punished me" (Sieff, Kevin). Nigerian troops took in charge of Gwoza and found weapons and tanks used by the insurgents were from Nigerian army bases. On the right is a graph picture provided by The Washington Post of where this event is occurring:
